Dear colleagues,

In solidarity with oil and gas workers and their Strike Campaign 1400 in Iran

I am writing this letter to you as the General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress to express our full support and solidarity with the members of the Union of Metalworkers and Mechanics in Iran (UMMI), as well as with all the workers at oil and gas projects and petrochemical plants, who have gone on strike in 72 companies across Iran, as part of the coordinated Strike Campaign 1400.

We support your struggle to gain better pay and decent social protection, and in doing so in the face of attempts to undermine your workplace rights through subcontracting, not to mention the blatant repression of your right to strike, you are fighting a battle that so much of the global labour movement shares. Your success is important to all of us, and we are firmly behind you.

In solidarity,

Frances O’Grady

General Secretary
