{"id":3015,"date":"2022-11-16T04:01:58","date_gmt":"2022-11-16T04:01:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/codir.net\/?p=3015"},"modified":"2022-11-16T04:04:22","modified_gmt":"2022-11-16T04:04:22","slug":"iran-thousands-held-for-peacefully-protesting-must-be-released%ef%bf%bc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/codir.net\/?p=3015","title":{"rendered":"Iran: Thousands held for peacefully protesting must be released"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>15 November 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UN human rights office, OHCHR,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/press-briefing-notes\/2022\/11\/iran-call-immediate-release-peaceful-protesters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called on Tuesday<\/a>&nbsp;for the immediate release of thousands of Iranian citizens who have been detained after peacefully demonstrating against the Government following the death of Mahsa Amini for breaking strict hijab rules two months ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/pages\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OHCHR<\/a>&nbsp;Spokesperson Jeremy Laurence, briefed reporters in Geneva, reporting that on 8 November, Iran\u2019s prosecutor had said more than 1,000 indictments had been issued to protesters in Tehran province alone, with hundreds of others outside the capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf7 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a>: We urge Iranian authorities to release thousands of peaceful protesters, revoke death sentences issued for crimes not qualifying as the most serious crimes and to impose a moratorium on the death penalty: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vJ46UEJ3NY\">https:\/\/t.co\/vJ46UEJ3NY<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7iaXPS2S3s\">pic.twitter.com\/7iaXPS2S3s<\/a><\/p>&mdash; UN Human Rights (@UNHumanRights) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UNHumanRights\/status\/1592505879949365248?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 15, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Immediate release<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<strong>We urge the authorities to immediately release all those detained<\/strong>&nbsp;in connection to peaceful protests, and to drop the charges against them.
