{"id":361,"date":"2016-08-19T03:51:56","date_gmt":"2016-08-19T02:51:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/codir.net\/?p=361"},"modified":"2016-08-19T03:57:28","modified_gmt":"2016-08-19T02:57:28","slug":"ebrahim-madadi-sentenced-to-five-years-itf-calls-on-iranian-government-to-drop-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/codir.net\/?p=361","title":{"rendered":"Ebrahim Madadi sentenced to five years: ITF calls on Iranian government to drop charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"header-article\">\n<div class=\"section-preview\">\n<p class=\"a2\">The International Transport Workers Federation, backed by 4.8 million workers, has called on the Iranian government to drop the charges against Ebrahim Madadi and Davood Razavi, from the Vahed Syndicate &#8211; the ITF\u2019s bus workers union in Tehran.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"a2\"><span class=\"published\"><time class=\"time\" datetime=\"2016-08-18\">18\/08\/2016<\/time><\/span><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<section class=\"section-body\">\n<div class=\"rte\" data-behavior=\"scrollTables\">\n<p>On 10 August Mr Madadi lost an appeal and was sentenced to five years and three months imprisonment on charges of \u2018gathering and colluding with intent to act against national security\u2019 and \u2018disrupting public order and peace by participating in illegal gatherings\u2019. In February Mr Razavi received a similar sentence.<\/p>\n<p>The verdict is the latest in the repressive actions by Iran\u2019s government against leaders of Vahed Syndicate.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.itfglobal.org\/en\/news-events\/news\/2015\/may\/itf-and-ituc-protest-harassment-of-labour-activists-in-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\">April 2015<\/a>: Davood Razavi and Ebrahim Madadi are arrested. The ITF and the ITUC write to Iran&#8217;s leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to ask him to intervene in the the case. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.labourstartcampaigns.net\/show_campaign.cgi?c=2706\" target=\"_blank\">LabourStart appeal<\/a> gets nearly 7,000 supporters.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.itfglobal.org\/en\/news-events\/news\/2015\/may\/itf-and-ituc-guarded-welcome-for-iran-releases\/\" target=\"_blank\">May 2015<\/a>: Mr Razavi and Mr Madadi are released on bail.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.itfglobal.org\/en\/news-events\/news\/2016\/february\/itf-intervenes-for-madadi-and-razavi\/\" target=\"_blank\">February 2016<\/a>: A five year prison sentence is given to Mr Razavi.
