Iran announced today that it launched a massive combined missile and drone operation against Israeli territory and US facilities in countries across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it launched Khaibar Shekan missiles with cluster warheads against targets in the heart of the Israeli capital of Tel Aviv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Iranian military reported that drones from the ground, air, and naval forces targeted \u201cTel Aviv\u201d and the \u201cMiron\u201d radar position in the occupied territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The IRGC spokesman stressed that they were \u201cprepared for a long war to punish the aggressor,\u201d adding \u201cnew Iranian innovations and weapons are on their way to us and have not yet been used on a large scale.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Israeli warplanes pounded Tehran and Beirut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The strikes in Tehran and Lebanon were some of the most intense since the US and Israel launched their unprovoked attack on Iran a week ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The US and Israel have targeted Iranian military capabilities, leadership and its nuclear programme. Last week, 175 schoolgirls were killed as they sheltered in a primary school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Social media posts have shown buildings being destroyed on both sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At least 1,230 people have been killed in Iran, more than 120 in Lebanon and around a dozen in Israel, according to officials in those countries. Six US troops have been reported killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Israeli attack on Lebanon was the heaviest since a 2024 ceasefire with Hezbollah ended the last war, although the Israelis have carried out daily attacks on southern Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than 95,000 people have fled Beirut and southern Lebanon after sweeping Israeli evacuation warnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, in a social media post today, US President Donald Trump said that after Iran\u2019s surrender, \u201cand the selection of a great and acceptable leader,\u201d the US and its allies would help rebuild Iran, making it \u201ceconomically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Thursday, President Trump urged the Iranian people to \u201chelp take back your country,\u201d promising the US would grant them \u201cimmunity,\u201d without elaborating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also told media outlets that he should be involved in choosing Iran\u2019s new supreme leader to replace Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the opening strikes of the war. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Trump labelled Ayatollah Khamenei\u2019s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, a front-runner to replace his father, \u201ca lightweight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iranian television reported today that a leadership council had started discussing how to convene the country\u2019s Assembly of Experts to select the new supreme leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
