THE United States attacked the central Iranian city of Isfahan early today, sending a massive fireball into the\u00a0sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reports in the US suggest US President Donald Trump is looking for a way out of the illegal and unprovoked conflict he began alongside Israel on February 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Trump, who has been insisting there is progress in diplomatic talks toward a ceasefire, despite the Iranians saying no such talks have taken place, shared a video of the attack on Isfahan, the home to one of three sites attacked by the US military last June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The US and Israel believe that some of Iran\u2019s highly enriched uranium is likely stored or buried there even though the US president claimed last year that it had all been decimated during the June attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tehran continued to hit back as it struck a fully loaded Kuwaiti oil tanker in the Persian Gulf, sparking a massive blaze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to growing Gulf Arab anger over their attacks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi insisted today that Tehran is only targeting US forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur operations are aimed at enemy aggressors who have no respect for Arabs or Iranians, nor can provide any security,\u201d Mr Araghchi wrote on X. \u201cHigh time to eject US forces.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iran has maintained its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz, closing off the vital waterway for global energy shipments, which has killed more than 3,000 people, hit the global economy and sent oil prices skyrocketing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Tuesday, the average price of petrol in the US shot past $4 (\u00a33) a gallon (about 80p a litre).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Donald Trump said countries upset by high fuel prices should \u201cgo get your own oil\u201d as he expressed his frustration on social media toward allies that have been unwilling to send warships to force open the crucial passage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Iranians insist the strait is open to everyone but the US, Israel and their allies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Trump also invited the discontented countries to buy from the US because \u201cwe have plenty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal quoted Trump administration sources on Monday as saying that the US president has told his advisers that he wants to end the war with Iran, even if the Strait of Hormuz remains generally closed to shipping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report suggests they say Washington should achieve its main goal, including the suppression of the Iranian Navy and the destruction of Iran\u2019s missile stocks, before seeking the resumption of navigation of the strait through diplomatic means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
