Insolidaritywith oil and gas workers in Iran

Union of Metalworkers and Mechanics of Iran (UMMI) Islamic Republic of Iran irunionmessenger@gmail.com

Dear sisters and brothers,

I am writing this letter to you as the General Secretary of IndustriALL Global Union, which represents more than fifty million workers in mining, energy and manufacturing sectors in more than 141 countries, to express our full support and solidarity with the members of the Union of Metalworkers and Mechanics in Iran (UMMI), as well as with all the workers at oil and gas fields in Southern Iran, who have launched coordinated strikes demanding better pay and conditions of service.

IndustriALL Global Union supports your demands calling that workers be paid according to the list of minimum wages agreed by the 2023 campaign, ensuring that conditions in canteens used by workers and their dormitories be humane and not sub-standard, and having a working schedule of 20 days working on site and 10 days paid holiday that should be implemented in the sector as common norm, particularly bearing in mind that most workers are travelling from their towns to oilfields.

We congratulate you on your tremendous courage and resolve in the face of oppression, and we are happy to learn that more than 20,000 workers have joined the strike.

IndustriALL Global Union stands in solidarity with your struggle and just demands. In solidarity,

Atle Høie

General Secretary
