Report on Worker Protest at Iran Aluminum Company (IRALCO)
Arak, Iran – A hunger strike by approximately 4,000 workers at the Iran Aluminum Company (IRALCO) has entered its 42nd day, with workers demanding significant changes to company management and policies. The protest, which began on Tuesday 9 September 2025, has escalated into a sit-in, as workers protest what they describe as mismanagement and a lack of attention from company officials.
The workers’ key demands are focused on improving working conditions and ensuring fair treatment. These include:
- The removal of the current CEO and head of security.
- A comprehensive review of the job classification system to address major wage gaps.
- Necessary repairs to essential production equipment.
- The re-establishment of casting workshops.
- The cancellation of unilateral management regulations.
- A call for greater transparency regarding production output, taxes, and worker benefits.
Despite what are described as attempts by management to intimidate workers with security charges, the protesters have affirmed their commitment to continue the hunger strike and sit-in until their demands are met.
The Committee for the Defence of the Iranian People (CODIR) has been following this protest action and stands in solidarity with the striking workers. CODIR is calling on the labour movement to express solidarity with them.
